I have a New Holland TC 24D HST and am wondering if anyone makes scaled down post hole diggers that are sized for smaller tractors? I also have a 30hp Kubota and the PHD I use on that is too large/heavy for the smaller NH. Any recommendations???

It sounds like your auger doesn't mount on the TC24. I use a generic 12" auger on my Ford 1710 (similar to a TC29). It has enough ground clearance in the middle mounting position on the yoke and the weight isn't an issue. The point does drag during transport when I drive over bumps, but I use the upper mounting position to gain clearance when transporting and the middle position for extra depth when digging. The auger can bang the hitch around unless I'm careful about the operation and I suppose a smaller bit would be easier on the PTO drive and clutch.
If I were worried about stress on the PTO or the cases I might buy a smaller diameter bit and use that unless I actually need 12" holes. Something like that might be an option.

The TC24D pretty much has the same problems you describe with yours, it works fine, but I just was trying to avoid hitting the tip on bumps, etc. I've got a larger tractor, but sometime a small tractor gets into places and is easier to move around, escpecially since the little one doesn't have an FEL. ....

I am not sure of the "scale" of my PHD but it works on the BX and the JD 4100.
I don't think a little tip dragging is bad..... the PHD is the one implement that you are least likely to leave on the tractor while doing other jobs.
Unlike a rear blade of some sort, you can't use it for ballast. Mine is only on the tractor when there is work for it to do, then it comes right off. ....

If the tip dragging is an issue then just hold it up clear of the ground when not in use, we have to do this because of safety reg.'s, we're not allowed to let it swing in the breeze for fear it will hit somebody or something.
The soution is simple, just take a short length of chain with a hook on one end and swing the auger bit up towards the driveshaft and make a single pass around the auger bit, near the bottom end, and around the boom arm then latch the chain into a circle, the auger flighting will prevent the chain from slipping off and the weight of the bit keeps it in place.

Like Mark, a PHD is no problem on my 4100 and I don't think it's scaled down. It's a BushHog P2102, drills 4 feet down, doesn't drag when moving though there's not a great deal of clearance. Usually I use a 12" auger, but this past week I've used it quite a bit with a 9" auger for terminal post holes. ....

Chaining the bit is a good suggestion and I can see that it's a good safety practice too. I guess my solution has been to just go slow, but I can see the bit could really flop around at appreciable ground speed or especially on a trailer. ....

I think I'll try the chain trick. My land is full of dips, hills and uneven ground so even going slow I get bounce the drill point on the ground during transport. ....
